Kim Seyesnem Obrzut

KIM SEYESNEM OBRZUT is an award
winning American Indian woman artist who has carved a respectable niche out in the Southwest Art scene. Her grandfather, a
Hopi Kachina doll carver, was instrumental
in preparing Kim for her journey into the
artist world. She completed her Bachelors
in Fine Art, Summa cum Laude at Northern
Arizona University, May 1991, in Flagstaff,
Arizona.

She started her career in art by offering
Hopi Maidens in water based and natural
clays using the traditional scrape and smooth method. These unique interpretations of traditional designs were an immediate success and afforded her the opportunity to venture into Bronze.

She learned bronze casting techniques at NAU and her style developed as she began to offer bronze renditions of her Hopi Maidens and several other traditional motifs from her Hopi roots. She moved to all bronze sculptures in 1996 and has sold out of over 20 editions along her career.

Since her first sculptures, she has earned respect from her peers and her collectors. Along the way she has received many honorable awards at national American Indian art competitions. Which include: Best of Show at the Museum of Northern Arizona, Flagstaff, and the Eiteljorg, American Indian and Western Art Museum in Indianapolis Indiana, and Best of Division at the Heard Museum in Phoenix. She travels to 15 Art shows each year aross the United States. and has Museum, Corporate, and International collectors.
 

Kim was Honored, with four other artist, at a Museum Show sponsored by the Southwest Museum in Los Angles. "American Indian Artists of the 21st Century" opened at the Los Angles County Museum of Art from October to December , 2000. Southwest Museum; "These artist were chosen, because they have made great contributions to Native American Art. "The Museum foresees that these artists will continue to have profound influences on Native art of future generations."

She resides in the peaceful pines of Flagstaff, Arizona, with her three daughters, who are inspirations in her art. In her own words, " My work is very contemporary, but my sculptures are steeped in spiritual and symbolic intent. I talk with my hands, the clay becomes my inner voice. The forms, the design, all of it is given to me. My work is totally original.
